Frazer Jones interviewed Kirstin Furber, People Director at BBC Worldwide
Do you have any secrets to having a successful career?
Be focused, know your stuff (which might mean taking a course), be open to doing things differently even though you may feel vulnerable, network and always look for the opportunity, which sometimes might be something very small.
What do you think will be the biggest challenge for the generation of women behind you in the workplace?
Having so much data and information to support making a decision at the detriment of gut instinct.
What advice would you give aspiring women in your industry?
If you have an idea - be bold - go out there and tell people about it, don’t wait, be proactive and set up those meetings/coffees. We live in a competitive world that is fast moving, with consumers who want more for less and to stay ahead with new ideas and approaches is the way forward.
How do you achieve work life balance?
Yoga and photography. Yoga for restoring my energy and releasing stress. Photography for being immersed in a subject and coming back with a new perspective - always good when needing to think through a problem from a different angle.
