Role Overview

As an HR Advisor, you will provide high-quality HR support to designated client groups, including fee earners and business services teams. Reporting to HR Managers, you will act as a trusted advisor, manage employee lifecycle processes, and contribute to strategic HR initiatives. You will also line manage an HR Assistant.

Employee Relations – Core Focus

Employee Relations will be a significant part of this role. Responsibilities include:

  • Acting as the first point of contact for ER matters
  • Advising managers and employees on ER issues with clear, pragmatic guidance
  • Managing disciplinary, grievance, and capability processes end-to-end
  • Supporting performance management conversations and improvement plans
  • Preparing documentation for hearings and ensuring compliance with policies and employment law
  • Escalating complex cases to HR Managers and liaising with external legal counsel when required
  • Analysing ER trends and providing insights for proactive interventions
  • Coaching managers to build confidence in handling ER matters effectively
  • Maintaining accurate records and confidentiality at all times

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver HR advice aligned with the firm’s people strategy
  • Manage the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, probation reviews, flexible working requests, secondments, and international assignments
  • Lead annual processes such as appraisals and salary reviews, including market benchmarking
  • Conduct exit interviews and analyse trends to inform retention strategies
  • Collaborate on diversity, inclusion, and change management initiatives
  • Contribute to recruitment activities and HR projects
  • Develop HR policies and act as subject matter expert on defined topics
  • Line manage and support the development of an HR Assistant

Skills & Experience

  • Significant HR experience at assistant, coordinator, or advisor level
  • Strong understanding of ER processes and global mobility (including immigration)
  • Experience in professional services or law firm environments preferred
  • Previous supervisory experience desirable
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel (including formulas), and PowerPoint
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Commercial awareness and a proactive, solutions-focused mindset
  • Discreet and professional handling of sensitive information
