Role Overview
As an HR Advisor, you will provide high-quality HR support to designated client groups, including fee earners and business services teams. Reporting to HR Managers, you will act as a trusted advisor, manage employee lifecycle processes, and contribute to strategic HR initiatives. You will also line manage an HR Assistant.
Employee Relations – Core Focus
Employee Relations will be a significant part of this role. Responsibilities include:
- Acting as the first point of contact for ER matters
- Advising managers and employees on ER issues with clear, pragmatic guidance
- Managing disciplinary, grievance, and capability processes end-to-end
- Supporting performance management conversations and improvement plans
- Preparing documentation for hearings and ensuring compliance with policies and employment law
- Escalating complex cases to HR Managers and liaising with external legal counsel when required
- Analysing ER trends and providing insights for proactive interventions
- Coaching managers to build confidence in handling ER matters effectively
- Maintaining accurate records and confidentiality at all times
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver HR advice aligned with the firm’s people strategy
- Manage the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, probation reviews, flexible working requests, secondments, and international assignments
- Lead annual processes such as appraisals and salary reviews, including market benchmarking
- Conduct exit interviews and analyse trends to inform retention strategies
- Collaborate on diversity, inclusion, and change management initiatives
- Contribute to recruitment activities and HR projects
- Develop HR policies and act as subject matter expert on defined topics
- Line manage and support the development of an HR Assistant
Skills & Experience
- Significant HR experience at assistant, coordinator, or advisor level
- Strong understanding of ER processes and global mobility (including immigration)
- Experience in professional services or law firm environments preferred
- Previous supervisory experience desirable
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel (including formulas), and PowerPoint
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Commercial awareness and a proactive, solutions-focused mindset
- Discreet and professional handling of sensitive information
