Compensation: $140,000 – $200,000

Overview

A leading professional services organisation is seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager to support its New York-based business services population. This hands-on role will partner closely with leaders and employees across the firm, providing guidance and support across talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, compensation, training and development, HR compliance, and HR systems initiatives.

The successful candidate will serve as a trusted advisor to managers and staff, balancing day-to-day HR support with strategic people initiatives. This position requires strong judgement, discretion, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, professional services environment.

Key Responsibilities

Talent Acquisition & Onboarding

  • Lead full-cycle recruitment for assigned business services positions.
  • Partner with hiring managers to define hiring needs and execute effective recruitment strategies.
  • Deliver a seamless candidate and onboarding experience.
  • Monitor recruiting activity, market trends, and hiring metrics to inform decision-making.

Employee Relations & Management Coaching

  • Act as a primary HR contact for employee relations matters, including performance concerns, workplace issues, policy interpretation, and investigations.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to managers on performance management, feedback delivery, and conflict resolution.
  • Partner with leadership to resolve sensitive employee matters in a consistent, legally compliant manner.

Performance Management

  • Support performance review processes, goal-setting initiatives, feedback programmes, and performance improvement efforts.
  • Advise managers on performance assessment and employee development strategies.

Learning & Development

  • Coordinate and support training initiatives for employees and managers.
  • Assist with professional development programmes focused on leadership, communication, coaching, and performance management.

Compensation

  • Support annual merit and bonus review processes.
  • Analyse compensation and performance data to support compensation planning and decision-making.
  • Manage sensitive employee and compensation information with the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Partner with compensation and HR teams to ensure accurate execution of annual compensation cycles.

HR Systems & Process Improvement

  • Collaborate with HR leadership and HRIS teams on system enhancements, process improvements, and future HR technology initiatives.
  • Support ongoing HR system optimisation and potential implementation projects.

HR Compliance & Administration

  • Interpret and administer HR policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, including New York-specific regulations.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and HRIS data integrity.
  • Support broader HR operations and administration as needed.

Ideal Background

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Human Resources, Business Administration, Organisational Psychology, or related disciplines preferred.
  • 5-8+ years of progressive HR generalist experience.
  • Experience within a law firm, professional services, accounting, consulting, or similar environment strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise across recruiting, employee relations, performance management, compensation administration, and HR operations.
  • Experience working with HRIS platforms such as Workday or PeopleSoft.
  • Exposure to HR system implementations or major enhancements preferred.
  • Strong understanding of New York employment law.
  • Advanced Excel skills with experience analysing employee and compensation data.
  • SHRM-CP, PHR, or equivalent certification is a plus.
