Our client, a highly stable global banking brand, is seeking a VP (HR Business Partner) to play a significant role in the HR and operational management of their small New York office (under 100 people).

Well-suited candidates will bring hands on and strategic experience out small to midsized international banking (or relevant global professional services firm), where they were intimately involved with the employee life-cycle, inclusive of administering benefits (H&W and retirement) programs/fostering strong relations with brokers, partnering/leading engagement initiatives, handling light recruitment and serving as ER point person. Payroll exposure would be a plus.

This position offers exciting global exposure to a mature HR professional who values collegial environments where knowing all your customers, maintaining strong attention to detail and gravitas with leadership, while nurturing the day-to-day workings of HR and other business areas.

Heavy interface into a globally based headquarters is strongly preferred, and demonstrable experience owning various pillars of a localized HR program is a must.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate core human resources functions, including payroll administration, benefits management, talent acquisition, employee relations, and collaboration with both internal teams and external service providers.
  • Manage employee benefit programs, ensuring effectiveness, compliance, and alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Assist with workforce planning initiatives and support the development, tracking, and management of personnel-related budgets.
  • Facilitate and oversee employment-based immigration and work authorization processes.
  • Address employee relations issues, conduct workplace investigations, manage accommodation requests, and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Execute end-to-end recruitment activities, from candidate sourcing and interviewing through onboarding and integration.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable employment laws, regulatory requirements, audit standards, and corporate governance policies.
  • Evaluate, streamline, and enhance HR processes, policies, and systems to drive operational efficiency and employee experience.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of employment law, HR compliance requirements, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage effectively across diverse audiences.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, sound judgment, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with experience improving processes and designing efficient workflows.
  • Proven ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with employees, managers, and senior leadership.

Qualifications

  • 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience in human resources, preferably in a broad HR generalist capacity.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; professional HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR) preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with HRIS platforms, payroll administration, immigration/work visa processes, and compliance reporting.
  • Prior experience within banking, financial services, or another highly regulated global business environment is strongly preferred.
