HR Business Partner With Workday & Operations Expertise

Team Overview

The HR function is composed of a highly skilled group of professionals, including experienced HR Business Partners, legal specialists focused on employment matters, and administrative staff. The team oversees every stage of the employee experience – from recruitment and onboarding through departure – and also manages compensation planning, program design, and day‑to‑day support. In addition, HR develops and delivers tailored training programs, performance tools, and employee‑focused initiatives that promote growth and a strong workplace culture. The team collaborates closely with Finance on payroll operations, benefits planning, and benefits administration to maintain accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.

Role Summary

We are looking for an experienced HR leader with strong Workday capabilities to serve as the primary HRIS owner and strategic advisor for all Workday‑related functions.

This is not a technical engineering role. Instead, this position requires someone with strong HR judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to translate organizational needs into Workday solutions that support broader people‑strategy objectives.

Workday is used across HR, payroll, and financial operations. This role will concentrate on the HRIS components – including employee data, reporting, performance processes, onboarding/offboarding workflows, organizational structure, and compliance tracking. The role requires hands‑on configuration skills, but more complex integrations will be supported by external consultants; this position will lead requirements gathering, project management, and alignment across stakeholders.

Along with HRIS ownership, this person will serve as the HR team’s data lead, responsible for reporting, dashboards, data quality, and analysis that supports strategic decision‑making.

Key Responsibilities

Workday Leadership & Strategy

  • Act as the Workday expert and central point of contact for the HR team
  • Drive enhancements, governance, and continuous improvement of HRIS processes
  • Create, test, and maintain Workday reports and dashboards covering headcount, turnover, hiring activity, compensation, and workforce analytics
  • Advise HR leadership on best practices involving system usage, security roles, organizational structures, and workflows

Employee Lifecycle Processes in Workday

In coordination with HR Business Partners, oversee and enhance Workday workflows for all stages of the employee lifecycle, including:

  • Onboarding tasks (job profile setup, compensation setup, benefits enrollment, I‑9 and E‑Verify steps, tax forms, transit benefit eligibility, documentation collection)
  • Offboarding workflows and documentation
  • Launch and oversight of performance evaluations
  • Time‑off and leave administration
  • Management of flexible work and medical accommodation processes
  • Internal transfers, job changes, and updates to employee profiles
  • Maintenance of compensation, demographic, and employment classification data
  • Organizational chart creation and updates
  • Employee record retention and documentation management
  • Compliance tracking and documentation

Data Quality & Reporting

  • Own HR data governance and ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Perform ongoing audits of employee data and reporting structures
  • Build dynamic dashboards with real‑time HR insights
  • Partner with HR leadership to turn data into actionable recommendations

Cross‑Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with Finance on payroll and compensation‑related data alignment
  • Coordinate with Recruiting to ensure consistency across pre‑hire and employee data
  • Manage system integrations (e.g., applicant tracking systems), including work with external consultants

Analytical & Operational Support

  • Conduct data analysis using advanced Excel functions, formulas, and pivot tables
  • Support compensation processes, including deferred pay, sign‑on awards, and custom pay arrangements
  • Lead or assist in HR data initiatives and process‑improvement projects

Requirements

  • Significant experience with Workday HCM, including reporting, security administration, and business process configuration
  • Strong knowledge of HR data structures, compliance requirements, and workforce processes
  • Experience as an internal Workday owner or Workday lead within an HR team
  • Proven analytical skills and experience with data audits, dashboards, and workforce metrics
  • Advanced Excel proficiency (formulas, pivot tables, analysis tools)
  • Strong problem‑solving abilities and meticulous attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to support non‑technical users
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with operational execution
  • Experience in a data‑driven or regulated industry (e.g., financial services) is a plus
