Our life experiences shape how we view the world. So, people from similar backgrounds with similar life experiences tend to view the world in the same way.
And if an organisation is full of people who think the same way, there will be collective blindspots. Echo chambers. No challenges to thinking. No innovation. No growth – personal or organisational – for anyone.
Which is why we are delighted to announce that we will be talking to author, journalist, and broadcaster Matthew Syed about cognitive diversity.
He’ll talk about why cognitive diversity matters and the links to high performance, as well as how to achieve cognitive diversity in your team – from recruitment processes through to the structure and dynamics of your team.
Matthew will cover:
- Why people often hire or surround themselves with people similar to themselves, and the risks associated with this
- Why intelligence is not enough and how cognitive diversity drives better outcomes
- How to create working environments that nurture diversity of thought
- Why hierarchy is important for decision making, but there needs to be a careful balance
- Why hiring from diverse backgrounds and experiences can help organisations achieve greater success
Because, according to Matthew, “Harnessing the power of diversity is set to become a key source of competitive advantage, and the surest route to reinvention and growth.”
You will also have the chance to ask Matthew questions at the end of the session.
This webinar is free but spaces are limited, so please register as soon as possible.
